The grand congregational Goharshad Mosque in Mashhad City in Razavi Khorasan Province is a national heritage that dates back to the time of Timurid Empire in Iran.
It was constructed at the order of Goharshad, the wife of one of the Timurid rulers, Shahrokh. Since then, the building has gone through renovations in various eras; however, its main shape has not altered.
Today, the mosque is located within the Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine complex and it mainly serves as a prayer hall to the pilgrims who come here from around the world.
